I am new to the Audi court. I bought a ’01 A6 4.2 about 600 miles ago. The car has about 47,000 miles. I have had some minor repairs done – vacuum hose, oil leak, etc. But now I am getting concerned. Here are the symptoms:

  • The passenger memory setting panel does not illuminate with the interior lights (I am not certain that it is supposed to but I thought that it did when I first bought the car).
  • The passenger memory settings do not work (they do not set).
  • The passenger tail light seems to be stuck in “brake mode” when driving lights are on. When brakes are applied it does not change brightness.
  • When brakes are applied with the driving lights off the passenger brake light does not fully illuminate – it looks like just the driving light is on – not the brake light (the driver side operates correctly).
  • The passenger side front driving light (not head light) does not illuminate at all.

Of course my first attempt would be to replace the bulb in the passenger front driving light. However, after reading a little bit about “Audi electrical ghosts,” I thought there may be more to this and that someone out there may have some experience with this or similar.

Thank you in advance for reading my issue and any suggestions you have.

PS Also, thanks for all the great info on this forum

The bulbs are cheap try replacing those before you go hunting for ghosts that might not be there

Update:

The passenger front drive light appears to be fine with both filaments intact. There are no fuses blown. Can someone please confirm that the passenger seat memory buttons indeed illuminate? Thanks.
