Just bought a 90qc; previous owner had a valve job done; they are noisy; I have not purchased a manual yet (what is the best source?. Are these adjustable? Hydraulic? Any input is appreciated. David

The factory service manual (by Robert Bentley) is the best all others are not worth the frustration. The lifters are hydraulic.

Over the years I have tried all sorts of service manuals but Factory is always the best regardless of the make or model. Haynes is OK but Clymer and Chilton are totally useless.

I had what I though was a noisy lifter but it turned out to be a broken valve spring. Changing the lifters is not difficult but tedious. Make sure that your oiling system is in working order as low oil pressure can give clicking noise, especially if the head was reworked and one of the oil passages are blocked.

I noticed the same thing with the Audi100 i picked up today? Is there an internal fcrancase flush that can be used? I was just planning to change the oil twice>??

As far as I know there is no way to flush out the hydraulic lifters or the oiling system in any car, other than doing frequent oil changes every 500 miles. The idea being that you are using the added detergents in the oil at the maximum strength before they loose their strength. I certainly wouldn't use any aftermarket additives.
