Default audi 100 wont engage

Hello Fellas:
I am new to the forum. I just picked up my first 1989 Audi 100 today. I am new to Audis(mercedes owner). I got the car for a very nice price. The car has 160k on the clock, and its a wagon. The car does not go into gear with normal ease. I have to really work the shifter to put in gear. Also The blower motor does not seem to work, as well as other little lights. I will really get to look at the car tomorrow. I have to locate a manual. Do the fuses on the Audis cause many problems on these cars, like on the MB's?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Its an automatic. I really had to work with the gear shifter to get it into gear.

Since it is an automatic, what do you mean by hard to engage? Is difficult to find the right gear or the gear selector is difficult to move? If it is hard to find the right gear than the cable has to be adjusted and synchronized. Problems could also be with the gear selector itself and or the cable. Low oil level can also give you problems. Audi's have a tendency to loose their trany fluids so check BOTH of them. I had one gear box lock up and explode on me because I failed to check the Dif fluid.

Default 100 wont engage/lights on dash

Offramp:
Many thanks Bud! The audi is an entirely different beats than the Mercedes that I am used to playing with. Its funny how that you get in a comfort zone with certain problems that a particular car has, then have to find out the problems for a differnet type of automobile. My indie said pretty much the same thing that you said. Now I have to find a manual to identify some of the dummy lights on the dash. The car did not have an alternator or ac belt. I put the alt belt on yest, and was about to throw the ac belt on, but the compressor was seized, which probably cause the ac belt to come off. I think that the car is running rich, after changing the plugs. I also think the car needs a cap, rotar, and wires, I assume. The body and interior were in great condition, but it seems that the fluids were neglected. Looks like I have my hands full, before winter sets in.....
