Default Ferrari can do it, why can't Audi?

Ferrari

vs

Audi

The point being is that you won't miss the shift with the Ferrari shifter and I was wondering why audi doesnt have the same type of "gates"(What I'll call the cut-outs) or for that matter other car companies. Why do car companies use rubber and leather boots instead of the ferrari style metal stalk?

um but if your bying like an rs4 or even an s4 with stick you really should know how to drive people like me (unskilled with stick) would just get an auto anyway at least on an S4. So i don't get why the gated shifter would be any harder, with the gated shifter it seems it would be easier. Again never drove a ferrari just wondering why it would be harder. Any info?

come on keep it alive i seriously want to know why it would be for "pro-drivers" it seems like it would only be easier once you get used to it

That looks like a great DIY project. Would take a lot of tweaking I suspect, but fun nonetheless if you have metal shaping tools.

word...i think it would be very doable just take boot off make all measuremnts( where the gears go in relative to the others the sides how far foward back etc.....then use a cnc machine if have acces if not very carefully shapping if anyone does it post pics i think it would be awesome if it looked like it was well made ie no balsa wood lol

most likely if i can ever get an s4 id get a tiptronic one....but with a gated shifter it would be alost harder to miss a shift i would theink like a short shifter thing from like bm used in conjjuction would be great than the throws should be precise enfough for a gated shifter right?
