Key won't remove
 

Hello new to this forum and also a new Audi owner.1999 A6 I have a problem that just started.Sometimes key won't come out after turning car off and parking.This doesn't happen all the time,seems to have a mind of it's own.I have tried the other remote key and same thing.Tried wiggling it,moving shift lever........no avail.Auto tran.Quattro,triptronic.........any ideas? I did a search here and didn't see anyone with same problem.

Sounds like it's time to get the engintion cylinder replaced.

Seems like it is something electronic that is locking it down...been taking 2 keys with lately because of it,so I can lock the doors and still get back in....but key is in ignition then and alarm won't turn on.

If you have auto, try moving the shifter back and forth out of park and flicking the button. Try moving the steering wheel around all the way, then try to remove the key.

MNMAN I have the same problem occasionally with my 99 A6. What I discovered is that it only happens when I use the Tiptronic to pick my gears and then put it directly in park when I get where I'm going. If I keep it running when I stop and move the shifter in the auto gate back and forth just once, the key will come right out in park. It's gotta have something to do with linkage wear (at least on mine). Incidently, she's got 177K.:)

Never thought of that! Haven't been using triptronic lately and haven't had any probs with key lately.......just other problems

could be the same kind of problem mattlam has in his topic 95 transmission...
Electronic piece that sense the position of your gear... if it doesn't sense that youve selected "Park" the key won't be released...
The problem which wh22366 is having can also be caused by this..
