considering an A4

I am in the process of looking for a new car and am interested in the A4 1.8t. I am not that familar with audi so I don't know what to look for as far as problems. I guess what I am wanting to know is are there any problems related to these years that I should look out for? Are these cars easy to work on, I like to do my own work. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

Pete

see if the timing belt(also water pump, thermostat) was done and the front control arms. these are the two main items. timing belt and stuff should be done around every 60,000 miles. control arms are pita. no telling when they will start creaking but they will sooner or later. if you like doing your own parts check out ecstuning.com or audiquattroparts.com.

good luck

I have a 99A4 and it just hit 63K. I haven't had to do anything to it other then the usual oil change etc. up untill last week when i had to replace the timing belt and water pump just like you said. I would highly recomend that car but do beware!!!!
