Default immobiliser problems

Hi all, i have recently bought a 1997 A6 1.8T and have been having intermittent problems with it regarding the factory immobiliser. After a bit of investigation i have figured out what the problem is. Take of the cowling around the steering column and you will see two wires going into the ignition barrel. The wires are twisted around each other and then bent at 90 degrees into a black connector. Ihad a broken wire at the bend and this is what was causing the problem. After a bit of soldering and reinsulating the wire problem solved. Hope this will be of help to anyone out there

this to there cars untill 2001. These may just be ignition wires?

I should have said that i live in Scotland and it is a european model. As far as i know these immobilisers are standard on cars after 1997.
