Fellas:
The Audi is working my nerves The car takes 20-30 seconds to go into reverse when it comes up to temperature. I had a MB do this, and it ended up being the reverse pak. The difference is that the Audi is fine while cold, but the MB always had that pause(even when cold). Have any of you ever heard of a bad seal causing this problem, because it seems like a hardware problem would do it all of the time. Is there a fluid that can help...

when was the last time the tranny fluid was changed? Might want to try switching to a redline.

I am not sure when the last time that the fluid was changed. The P.O did not give me much history on the car when I picked it up. I will probably do it this week. You know it will be snowing in Clevleland any day
What would be a quality replacement tranny fluid for the 100?

many thanks bud,

Did you change the special oil filter located on the outside of the transmission? I believe Audi requires that it be changed at frequent intervals. If I recall it is located on the passenger side and you should be able to see it from the engine compartment. It looks like just like a regular oil filter.

I did not see a filter as described. i did not know that the 100 had a 3 speed and 4 speed transmission until I went to the parts store. I changed the fluid today and found one of the screws that holds the screen in place, sitting in my oil pan. I also found metal shavings and other junk in the pan. I have to grab some fluid for the re-fill. I will keep you posted on its progress.

Thanks again,

I think that only the electronically controlled 4-speed had the external filter. The 3-sp models had no external filter and used hydraulics and mechanics to shift. If you found shavings you are out of luck. Save yourself the trouble and have it rebuilt. If I had to guess the shavings are probably from the torque converter. This actually happened on my fathers Chevy with Turbo 350 Trany.
