Default Extended Warranty a good idea? + other Q's

I am about to purchase a 97 audi a4 quattro 2.8L with 97500 miles on it. I am reading that the reliability is not too great on these things.... but that doesnt matter to me. The audi is a symbol, not just a car. Anyways.... For $1798 i can get a 2 year full coverage extended warranty with roadside assistance and an $100 co-pay. I am just under the eligable mileage for this warranty, and i guess i want some peoples input on the idea. BTW its from... Continental Warranty in Seattle, anyone know anything about them??.....

also when i test drove it there were a few questions i got... when i go over bumps at around 5-25 MPH there is a rubbing noise in the back right of the car.... shock? control arm? i have no idea.....

anyways just would like to have some input from other people

also when i test drove it on the highway the engine in 5th gear was up over 4000 RPM.... this has to be a problem with the guage right because it doesnt sound like its reving that high...

and one more question... how come my SAAB 900 2.0 turbo 4 cyl has like 30 more HP than my 2.8 v6 Audi A4?? i guess SAAB just knows how to make a power small engine

$2k on a warranty wouldn't be hard to use up real quick. It'd be easy if you are paying a dealership to fix your car to rack up $2k. Shoot, just replacing some seals alone could do that. If you anticipate problems with the car, then I would say yes get the warranty. Make sure they don't have a max pay-out like 30% of the Car's Book value or something. That could get you.

The extended warranty has paid out $7400 to date. Glad it's not me.

My extended warranty has paid a similiar amount. I found a good dealership and they are even willing to go a little bit beyond the "covered" stuff to really help me out. That's what you need to find.

have all the problems sorted before you buy the car and a 2k warranty is basically worthless,
when a person buys a car from a reputable garage the car should be sound and road worthy if they cant offer this then go else where
