Radio reception and tinted windows

Have an 2002 A4 and got the windows tinted (metallic tint). My radio reception worked fine for about 1 year after that, then all of a sudden, crapped out. I get HORRIBLE reception, both AM and FM. Went to the delaer and they said that the FM Booster was bad and getting it replaced. However, they did say that since I had metallic tint on the windows, eventually the booster would go bad again and I needed to replace the tint with plastic tint. I was curious if anyone knew this to be true and, are there any options to replace the window antenna with external one. I can understand the metallic tint causing some interference with the overall reception but I am not sure I buy that it would cause the booster to eventually fail. Also, i was told it was the FM Booster and not the antenna amplifier. Do '02 A4's come with booster or does the dealer mean antenna amp ? The new part is about $95 (nice hefty dealer price)
Thanks.
