Holy shit! I know i'm in CA and i really shouldn't, but for $165.00 and a 45 minutes drive i can get this http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=ATP-VVW-138&Category_Code=BCS
"Typical gain is 200 to 400 rpm sooner spoolup and 40 ft/lb of wheel torque. HP gain is 10-15 on stock and K04 turbo and 30-40 on GT28RS or larger turbo. Our favorite when used with stock exhaust for ultra quite stealth sound. This part is for offroad use only."
I love how they throw on "This part is for offroad use only" at the very end. but about 40ft/lb torque gain!?! I havn't been this excited since bought the car. I can't wait!
Has anyone tried it? Is it that much louder?
Is it "Cool" loud (stock exaust) or is it "WTF was that, does he even have an exaust" loud?
Any testimonials would be awesoem.

also when you install this how do you prevent a cell from popping up?

I have been thinking about the same part, I am pretty sure it sets off the CEL and I don't know how to get it off without taking the bulb out

The test pipe will take away you cat, obviously.
This reduces backpressure allowing the turbo spool quicker.
This can also increase HP/tq.. i dont know about the numbers they gave but it can increase them
To get rid of the CEL you need about 5$ and a good drill.
Go to autozone and buy some Spark Plug Non-Foulers (18mm thread I belive). Drill ONE of them out so its hollow, but dont mess with the threads...
Screw them together so the hollow one is on top. Remove your secondary O2 sensor and put these foulers in its place. Then screw the o2 sensor into the foulers.
BOOM no CEL

haha lets just say those claims for hp and tq are just a BIT over rated. im gonna(stock car) say that its more near 10 ft/lbs and 10 hp, IF THAT!! mostly you gain faster spool, which is def a plus.. i was stock(mostly) when i had my pipe on, and i could see a small improvement, mainly a little more boost which sent me into limp mode yay! but if your chipped your gonna get a bit more power out of it. and the bigger turbo you have the more this part makes a difference.
its a good mod, and in fact im getting a full turbo back exhaust on right now(custom 2.5 all the way) no cat. and now im chipped so i will tell you the difference then.
i would say get to know an exhaust specialist, buy him some beer and let him make you a full exhaust with no cat or anything for about $275.
but bang for the buck the testpipe isn't too bad, especially down the road when you want more power
PS if you have lots of miles or for some reason your cat is clogged, this will REALLY help. in that case you will get a little closer to their claims..... fyi my car is at 93k original cat, no problems.

I'm going to dyno my car before and after... We'll see. There's this new company coming out called Icon Racing that's designing one that will eliminate the Secondary Oxygen Sensor Code, the Test Pipe will be made of 304 SS, the welds will be Robotically Tig Welded, and from what I've seen it should be a pretty solid design (I know the guy who's starting the company). He said the price will be $169.95 SHIPPED, will include OEM Gaskets, and OEM Hardware.
I'll have one in a few months once he starts selling them, I'll post a detailed write up when the time comes.

Might sound like a dumbass, but how many O2 Sensors are there? Isn't there two places for them? Or why will the CEL come on?
kakarot

to prevent the cel poping out, you will need to instal O2 simulator, which will fead the ECU with false information. Go to my webpage, read it.

ah also you can use universal cat there or High Flow cat, I saw couple of times on Ebay, like $150. and if you are past 1995 then I believe you can take it out, but If you go to Canada and the cop would stick a tube through your back then you will have a problem.

Magnaflow sells High-Flow Catalytic Converters for $76, I was thinking about having one installed further down the exhaust system, so it's not as restrictive, but I'll still have a Cat. I would just have to extend the Secondary Oxygen Sensor wires (Only four), and that would be that.
activemonkey, there are two. One reads the Air Fuel Ratio Pre-Cat, and the Secondary reads the Air Fuel Ratio Post-Cat. The Secondary is there to make sure that the Catalytic Converter is functioning properly. So when you put on a Test Pipe, it's now reading the same resistance as the Primary, so the ECU reads that as a bad Cat, thus it throws the code. However, tricking the Secondary into reading proper Air Fuel Ratio isn't hard at all, and it costs $5 to do. Icon Racing's design has it already incorperated though, so there's no modification needed.

Better yet, $30 will go to someone who can build one, and install it. I can drive anywhere within NorCal (ie within 3 hours of SF)

It's not hard my man... Set a day aside, get a buddy to help, and just get a little dirty and figure it out. ;)
Icon Racing's Test Pipe won't be out for another few months, but I'll keep you guys posted.

As far as the claims go....I believe with the bt setup, you will easily notice 25whp or more if you already have 3" mandrel bent exhaust and some sort of intake running a good amount of boost. I cant wait to get mine.

What other mods do you have? A test pipe on a stock A4 is stupid. Actually a test pipe on anything except a track monster is stupid, IMO. Sorry but true. You'll have to swap back on the cat to pass emissions. (Yes I'm in a bad mood).

But if you dont have smog it sounds like a good mod! I will say that it would be better to have a few mods, a test pipe on a stock A4 might kinda suck. I know a 3' downpipe on a stock eclipse would give you wicked boost creep!!! IMO not the best first mod more for the guys with lots of other junk....

It won't pass EMISSIONS?
i know... I'll need to swap them back but that's not too big of a deal. Ok, so far this is what i have
A stock A4
Ok, now this is what i'm going to be putting in at the same time as the Test pipe.
Neuspeed 1.0bar performance chip
Neuspeed 5.0bar Fuel Pressure Regulator
Denso IK22 spark plugs
Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump
Looking for some injectors (talking to a buddy at Kragen)
Also looking for a custom cat-back exaust.

just wondering, but don't you need a new fpr with a chip?
Mr_You
01-28-2006, 04:18 PM
SlowB5 is right on. Also I've heard the Neuspeed chip sucks. Find a local APR or GIAC dealer (depending if you want a K04 or GT turbo in the future, I want K04). AFAIK most chip upgrades (only) do not require FPR. You will need a Bosch 710 or Sport 110 BPV or one of the over priced blingy aftermarket ones.

When we're dynoing my car, we're dynoing with a series of different combinations of parts, to show exact power gains:
- Stock with Test Pipe
- Exhaust/Hard Inlet Pipe/Test Pipe
- Exhaust/Hard Inlet Pipe/APR Stage I/Test Pipe
So we'll see how it turns out.

here in NY my dad's car past by checking into computer, but mine is checked on rollers.

yeah some places have smog, others have it where you hook it up to the diag., and others just have safety. Not sure about new york. We have emitions that cost 30.00(free for me because im an inspector), how much do they cost in ny?
