Default Trunk help?

I am going to finally be able to install my sub woofer next week. However, I really hate the way my trunk is set up. I was told that the top bars were part of the frame and to not tamper. I was thinking of taking out the whole insert leaving the bars and carpeting. Would anyone who has dealt with the old 4000 trunk please help, thanks.
Here are some pics, if more are needed, just ask.

P.S. the peice of wood is there to hold up the trunk lid because the lift shock has become useless.

I dont know what you trying to acomplish but the way you say it, You gona heave a lot of problems if you do so.
If you wana do cool job. Put the subwoofer between the rails. and cover it with something like 5 mm clear glass/plastic.

I want my trunk to look nice and tidy, like newer audi models. I would really like to put in some carpet but don't know how to approach it.

ah, you just want carpet. well thats easy. almost. You could search and could find replacement carpet for your car. If you cant find replacement carpet, you will have to make your own, which is hard, also you can find DIY on the web.
