I just bought my first Audi and Im really pleased with it ;)

There is just one thing I wanted to ask you guys and that is if my MPG is normal.

It's a 5 gear automatic.

Im getting 15.1 MPG (15.5 L/100km) during town driving. I usually don't drive long distances and
my avarage speed is only about 20 mph but I've been driving extremely carefully
the last days to test the MPG so 15 looks like alot to me for only 1.8 engine.

The last car had 1.6 engine and was 24 mpg.

Any ideas ?

Thanks !

How many miles does the car have? Have the O2 sensors been changed lately? Try running a few cycles of Gumout Regain. I've experienced a gain from 170 miles a tank to 280!

It's a '98 and its driven ~37.000 Miles.

Since Im in Iceland, europe , We don't have O2 sensors.

I'll try an injector cleaner and see if I see a difference ;)

thanks

Isn't the O2 sensor associated with the catalytic converter ?

Or maybe Im just being stupid hehe

Arnar,

I've just sold my 1.8T (Tiptronic box, Avant) and I used to get well over 23mpg on the usual run to work and back. Average speed was about the same as if I took my bike! (18-20mph). On a long motorway run, I could push it up to about 34mpg. All this was from the DIS. I never actually worked anything out for myself....

I'd say 15mpg was poor unless you are giving it some stick. No idea what the problem may be though.

I was just about to post a Q about MPG on my new (to me) 2.5TDI but saw your post first....

C.
