Got 1994 80 TDi 1.9, engine occassionally splutters, sometimes on short runs sometimes long runs. No common thread, worst lasted 1 hour on motorway, then just goes away for a while. Tried plugs, not dirty diesel, tried Redex in diesel, no different. Anybody got any ideas?

ye, when diesel gives away black smoke, it usually the injectors dierty. the blue smoke is when ignition is wrong, or eats oil. try cleaners or just take them out and clean then physically, just be carefull with small holes.
