I have a question. when I start my car w/ climate control on, fan start to running and never stops. also it makes high pitch fan noise too.
is it normal? when I turn the climate control off, fan stops.

thanks.

Default RE: Fan Noise

I had the exact same problem with my 2001 A6 4.2. It started around 15,000 miles and after several unsuccessful servicings I decided to just give up and not make a career of looking for a solution. The car was leased and I knew I would soon be moving on to a new one (I just bought a 2005 model - LOVE IT).

Anyway, I even had the technician take the car home so he would be certain to hear the squeek, which was intermittent and seemed to be dependent on various circumstances such as when I exited the highway and slowed down to 25 - 30 mph, or when I took a certain curve on the street. If the fan was off, no squeek. No one seemed able to locate it, but I told them it was the climate control fan and they claimed to have exchanged it (no way to prove it) and that didn't solve the problem. Ultimately, it never went away and I turned the car in at 27,000 miles - I wonder if they ever fixed it before reselling it as Certified Pre-owned?

Good luck. I know your positng is old....I just joined the forum. Let me know if you got it solved or not.

Default RE: Fan Noise

The fan will always come on with CC switched on. The squeeking is either bad bearings within the fan unit or there is debris within the ducts that may mimic squeeking.
