As the title says. I just picked this car up a week ago for a great deal and i see that my owners manual did not come with the car. I was just wondering from other owners what oil you guys recommend for my audi 90 CS Quattro with the 2.8L V6 that has 145k miles on it.

Another question i have, is should i get the timing belt changed with this many miles on it. It hasnt failed or anything, just wondering for preventetive maintainance.

Thanks in advanced!

While I am not familiar with 2.8 V6 motors I think that 10w30 is probably a safe bet for all-round use. I don't recommend any of the "High Mileage" oils. I think that they are gimmicks. I tried using them on three different vehicles that burned oil, the amount of oil being consumed made no difference. If the rings and seals are worn the oil is not going to help.

do you recommend synthetic oil or not synthetic oil?

What about my other questions?

You can use either synthetic or regular oil. I think that it is more important to change it on regular basis. I use synthetic oil from weasel world not as pricey as mobil1 but gives more protection.

Replacing the belt, idler and water pump is a good idea. I suggest that you have the timing belt inspected at the very least. Look for obvious signs of wear, like, fraying, cracking, etc.

i have the same engine in my car . i use 5w-30 syn (amsoil). you should change timing belt, water pump, thermostat every 60,000ish miles. you do this becase audi have intrferance engines. if the belt breakes your engine is tost. the other twoare done because you are already there and not realy that expensive. you can check out www.ecstuning.com for parts.

I'm partial to Mobile 1 0W-40. (only M1 approved for Audi/VW I believe)

After I buy all the parts, Ruffly how many hours of labor is required to replace all these parts in that kit for a reputable mechanic?

probably 5-6 hours or so for a good mechanic to install
