View Full Version : MY A6 CAUGHT FIRE.... 10 minutes after it was bought
reality1011 04-01-2006, 04:40 AM MAN today was a TERRIBLE DAY. I got the Audi A6 that I was looking at. drove it and looked at it.... signed all the papers
paid for it, then we (the dealer, my friend, and myself) went to get temp tags from an independent agency.... on the way home
smoke starts rising from the dash, immediately pulling over and seeing flames we get out...
SO NOW THIS CAR IS IN MY NAME AND I HAVE TO CLAIM IT....
sux
cary12 04-01-2006, 04:44 AM That really sucks. Insurance I hope? What was the cause?
reality1011 04-01-2006, 05:25 AM electrical...
yep I have full coverage. but I am looking into the lemon laws.
99a4audi 04-01-2006, 04:49 PM wow that sux man sorry to hear that. hope everything works out
Suite3.0A4 04-01-2006, 06:48 PM Sorry to hear that man. BTW, did you purchase that warranty that you were looking into??
reality1011 04-01-2006, 08:23 PM not yet... I had 10 days after the purchase to do this....
good news is that the seller fells really bad and wants to make up for this bad transaction....
so hes offering to give me another a6, with 30K less miles....
we will see what happens when the insurance company contacts me
VeGaS 04-01-2006, 09:55 PM hopefully everything is going to be cool
sorry man
dankhound 04-02-2006, 12:33 AM There was a recall on the a6 to prevent the headlight harness from shorting out and causing a fire. May want to check and see if this was performed or whether it was performed correctly.
beefski 04-02-2006, 01:52 AM Sorry to hear. Call Audi USA giving them the vin they will be able to verify if the recall noted previously was done.
reality1011 04-02-2006, 03:24 AM I did call audi and asked them about its history and they told me that the car was in for recall checks didnt specify what checks though
...
but do you know when that recall came out? this way I know if and when the check was done
BadLuckAudi 04-02-2006, 09:36 AM Man whats with the Audi's burning up, an S4 went up just a little while ago
reality1011 04-02-2006, 12:15 PM come to think of it... I did have the lights on and the fog lights on as well.
do you think Audi would be responsible for something like this?
techbod 04-02-2006, 12:23 PM since your getting another car why bother your self, and yes they could be held responsible because its designed to run with those lights on
reality1011 04-02-2006, 12:36 PM well for a couple of reasons...
1. I would rather not have this hit my insurance especially since I didnt have the car for 10 minutes.
2. They might, slight chance, hook me up with a deal or help me replace the car with something comparable.
its just a thought but then again I know I called them and they said that the car was in for a warranty check, and the last time it was in was in 2004, right around the time that the recall came out... so I dont know.. but I am going to contact audi on monday and see what they say
techbod 04-02-2006, 12:46 PM well that's simple "its just a car change" the problem doesn't need to be reported to the insurance its to be kept between you and the seller don't tell the insurance company other wise you will create a history and that's not good
reality1011 04-02-2006, 01:15 PM i already reported it.... I have to otherwise I am putting myself in jeopardy of losing 16g's....
the dealer is saying that he will give me another car, a better value, at the same price...
my question is this... could the dealer that sold me the car be responsible for neglecting the recall???
it seems as though unless I want to persue this legally I am not going to get much further than the insurance company.
techbod 04-02-2006, 02:24 PM its not a question of pursuing the seller he did the right thing so your insurance company cant hold it against you regardless, if they did and if they did you can pursue a claim against them for deformation of character "you did nothing wrong" so you want proof they wont harm your claims bonus
reality1011 04-02-2006, 02:30 PM in sorry I think you are confusing my words....
by dealer I was thinking audi.
techbod 04-02-2006, 02:32 PM seller;)
reality1011 04-02-2006, 02:41 PM are you saying the seller is responsible for this?
techbod 04-02-2006, 02:42 PM yes
reality1011 04-02-2006, 02:43 PM justify that reasoning... please
techbod 04-02-2006, 02:49 PM you bought a car in good working condition "less than 24 hrs" they are responsible for all repairs free or replacement of the goods as to what you purchased "unless the car was sold as seen" and even then you have rights to claim you cash back
reality1011 04-02-2006, 02:52 PM the car was sold as is. and I attempted to claim my cash back but there is obviously a conflict on what exactly can be done.
techbod 04-02-2006, 02:59 PM its all down to the wording of the advert for sale, if he/she said it was good working order then they lied and you have a case
techbod 04-02-2006, 03:00 PM fault within 24 hrs means you have a claim
reality1011 04-04-2006, 05:37 AM quick update...
I talked to the audi customer service after I found out that the recall work was done on my car. They want to inspect the car and see if it was the same... I will hear back from them in a couple of days.
reality1011 04-05-2006, 07:53 PM I contacted audi and they are going to inspect the car right around Easter.
They told me that if I can hold off and not collect the insurance payment, that it would probably be best.
We shall see what happens
BLAZEDUPBEE 04-06-2006, 02:51 PM DAMMMMNNNNN !! THATS CRAZY BUT GOOD LUCK! I wouldve been on the sellers ass!! he wouldve have to replace the vehicle especially if they was in the car with you! so its obvious it wasnt your fault!!
abacab 04-06-2006, 03:06 PM Ahh....My S4 burned down to the ground this morning!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!
I put the emergency flashers on...went into starbucks for a half cafe-non-fat-doubleshot-extra-hot-no foam latte....and when I got back outside there was a smoldering hulk and a fire crew standing around......oh man!
I was listening to Incubus...Pardon Me While I Burn....do you think that was a contributing factor? Is there a TSB on the wiring harnes for the emergency flashers??
Jestnomen 04-06-2006, 05:36 PM Holly cow, this is unreal. Poor Audi's. :(
reality1011 04-07-2006, 02:54 AM this is seriously making me think twice about getting another audi

IDUA ORTTAUQ 6A 10-02-2007, 06:22 PM Don't get so excited..........First off, most states, if not all states, have laws that protect you the used car consumer from incidents such as you describe.Find out what your rights are first, then confront the dealer for a full refund of the money. The dealer will abide......but if given a chance, they will try to unload another car onto you before you take action. It's just a game, know your wrights!...........Good luck.........[&:]
