Hello, I have a 2001 A6 4.2L. The car runs perfectly fine, however the check engine light is always on untill i erace the codes, but even then the light comes back on in only a few days. The codes have to do with the catalytic converters, both of them. However it doesnt seem like i need to change them any time soon. So if anyone could please tell me if there is a way of getting the check engine light to stop from coming back on? thank you!

well what was the code?? you cant just turn the CEL light off sorry mate but I hear many people take the bulb out or put tape over the area because it can get annoying, if a catalyst has gone down the fuel consumption will be seriously effected and will eventually damage the engine if it blocks up

yeah i know, but the car only has 100 000km on it, and it runs perfectly fine (smooth as ever and really powerfull). so i dont see why the CATs could cause any damage to anything (fuel cons./engine). And my intention is to only turn off the CAT error, not the entire light.

without the code im just guessing its the cat " and believe me the engine can be seriously damaged if the exhaust blocks up " simply get the fault codes so a diagnosis can be done

ive gotten them a while back so im not sure what the codes are exactly. but i do know that its something like "catalytic converter arent working at full efficiency" or something like that. thats why i doubt that they are anywhere near causing damage to anything. tahnks for ur help :)

the codes could be many from P0420 to P0439, normally if you get a single code it points to the catalyst if you get multiple codes chances are its the O2 sensor(s) or exhaust system leak, only way to turn the CEL light off is to defeat the readings from the HO2 sensors if it was the catalyst or fit a through pipe in place of the catalyst, sorry I cant help in any other ways but good luck

well, ive just read up an article on a way to trick the O2 sensor in getting the right amount of voltage. and yes i believe its the O2 sensor that is giving the Low Efficiency readying. the article is from Audi World. im going to continue researching about a way of doing it, any extra help/opinions ide greatly appreciate, thanks once again
