Hi, mine is a 1988 Audi 90. The lower control arm bushings seem to wore out. I'd like to replace them myself. But I am not sure if there are some special tools or care needed. Thank you

A hydraulic press would be nice .... but if you do not have one find a big hammer ,some woden blocks of varios sizes and maybe some maching diameter piece of pipe ... to help gently remove and install the bushings

It's a ball joint press from harborfreight.com item 38335 and goes for about $20-40.

Go to a machine shop and have them pressed out. Don't risk mangling your control arms. They are expensive. Do it right and you'll never do it twice. Even if you get them out (Which I doubt) you wont get the new ones in without a press.

dude, dont even think.
first, you dont need big hammer but rather kuvalda. which is a HUGE hammer about 45 pound head would do nicly.
second, you need crow bar, to get the ball joint out.
third, you need a PRESS OR else you might damage the new thinies. The thing in the picture above would do.
4, you need a peace of tube that is exact diameter that the new rubber thiny.
5, its Very measy and neededs a friend to help, alone you wont be able to do.
6, you need a thing that holds, hmm, dont know how its spelled.
7, jack stand couse you wont be able to do it on a regulkar lift. (DANGEROUS)

my sugestion, just go to a good mechanic with all the new parts, say "Listen, I need you to replace this" If mechanic says you need new lower arm, then say "see ya, I go to another mechanic"
do this till one says "Okey, no prob, it will cost $$" then say "hmm, do that for half and you got your self a deal" he might lower the price or say screw ya.

PS: IF you want detailed steps how to replace thoughs rubbery thinies, then PM me or write "Dude, that would be nice"
