Default Awful AC Odor

I know it's hot and humid here in the south, but the smell coming from my A4 Cab's air conditioner these days is pretty rank. Until today it's cleared up after several minutes. Now it starts off really stinky, then gets gradually better, but doesn't completely go away. Does anyone else have this smell and/or a remedy?

No I haven't changed the cabin air filter. Would this require a trip to the dealer or can I do it?

If I did it, you can do it!!!! lol

I bought the filter from the dealer though bc I got kicked out of Advanced Autoparts because the guys were being @ssholes towards me. Just make sure you get the cabin filter. The cabin filter is rectangular. I have a 99.5 A4 and to change it you just have to take a few plastic pieces apart under the hood up in the left-hand corner up towards your windshield. It was really easy.

YOu could have them do it at the dealership, they were gonna just put it for me for free while I was there but I was in a hurry and needed to leave so didn't want to wait around.

You may also want to see if you've got a standing water issue. If the A4 is at all like the A6, your air intake is under the hood, close to the windsheild. In that area are drains that take water coming off the windwhield/over the hood. If one of these drains gets plugged (on the A6, this can happen if you don't periodically remove leaves & other debris that can get in there), it could cause a standing water issue. That standing water could breed bacteria and other nasty stuff that would not smell very good. When you change the aire filter, check the surrounding area and/or do a search on "water drains" in the A4 forum.
