when i roll my back right window all the way down, and try to roll it up it goes back down, when i keep trying it goes up very slow then goes back down, eventually i had to get a friend to push the window up while i held the button, anyone have any idea what the problem is? my audi dealer is about an hour and a half from here so we only try to go there for the cars scheduled maintenence (every 10k miles)

sounds like you have a sticking switch (down button stuck on)

Chris,

It could either be a swith (as already noted) or a worn window guide -- a common problem. These windows have pinch sensors and if they detect too much resistance, they will back down. A worn guide creates resistance. If you diagnose the switch and find it's not the problem, check the guides.

You may want to check out Stoney's Links (the ultimate A6 owner's resource guide -- see my signature for the link). It's a great resource for researching problems and finding DIY fixes (e.g., the window guide issue is discussed there, including links showing how to replace them).

Good luck.

had the same problem with my 00 4.2. i posted basically the same question and received a response referencing the window clips as the problem. the user was right on the money. he even forwarded me a link with directions for the fix: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/int45.shtml. i can't thank him enough. simple fix and relatively cheap! good luck!

That's the link! When I referred to this issue being discussed in Stoney's Links, that's the exact link I was referring to. For those A6 owners that are not familiar with this resource (see my sig for the link), it is an EXCELLENT place to get MANY of the questions asked here answered. I usually tend toward pointing people there (as opposed to providing the specific link) so that people can see and learn of it's value first hand.

My 99 A6 does the same thing with the passenger side window, but only when it rains. Would that point to bad guides or a switch? How would I go about testing the switch?

Thanks
