Default Car shifting gears on own

My A4 cabriolet started shifting gears on its own. It would go from D to S sporatically, and the manual transmission would not work during this time. I took it to the dealer, and they have had it for three weeks. Supposedly, they talked to the folks in Germany, and Germany was going to send over a new control unit, which has never arrived. Now, the dealer is telling me that Audi is telling them that this problem is starting to crop up with their German vehicles, and they are working on a solution. My dealer told me that he didn't know when they might expect the part, and that I may want to talk to the sales manager about cutting me a deal on another car.

Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on how to work with the dealer on this?

Thanks,

Paul

What year? Check into your states lemon laws. Depending on the state, and time you have had it, and number of attempts to fix it, you may have legal recourse to get a new car.
