Everyone has seen this right? I hope so, it's a blast to watch. I've had in saved for a while, but I just figured out that there's a place that hosts it for easy watching anywhere. Think of it as "Audi History for the Busy Professional". :D

But I'm over it now. I mean, who would want such a wide Audi when you have to have 17 jobs just to pay for the thing. Imagine all of the legal hookers you could put through college without those car payments! Yeah, didn't think about it that way, didja? ;)

Only 9 of the 17 jobs go towards car payments, another 9 are for child-support, 4 are for illegal hookers, 6 cover car repairs and upgrades/mods, and 1 is for food & housing.

It's gonna take LOTS of practice to get RILLY good at it. It's the technique I used when I raced karts, in Europe. Not professinally, mind you. We hadda loose group of lunatiics and we'd hit different kart tracks on weekends, and race for bragging rights, mostly. I RULED!!! but then, I've spent many, many years hauling asphalt on European mountain roads, and left-foot braking:D Driving a turbo helped, too, cause the "public" carts are severely underpowered[:-]

Great video, its probably the best I've seen yet of the Quattro racing history, the driver commentary is awesome. Freakin awesome to see Audi destroying those big V8s About the left foot driving technique...isn't it the same concept as heel and toe driving? They're both used to keep the engine at a certain RPM so theres no turbo lag. I know in A4s heel and toe driving is not easy because the brake is spaced too far from the throttle and is so damn high.

Left-foot braking is similiar, but not really teh same. With left-foot braking you basically keep the clutch engaged and throttle on teh firewall and control BOTH your corner entrance speed AND corner entrance attitude (think RALLY-style cornering, it IS AWD after all, and you basically have ALL 4 wheels pulling you around teh bends) with your left foot ON the brake. Keeping the throttle MASHED (and, therefore, ON BOOST) is the key element. Not rev-matching, as you would with heel&toe driving. Similiar, but different;)
BTW, the reason the brake-throttle distance is SO GREAT in Audi is because of that whole unintended acceleration, from back in the alte 70's/early 80's. Phugkin OLD people and their American driving styles[:@]

I drive all of my auto-trans equipped cars with both feet, right-accel and left-brake, so it comes very naturally to me in a manual. The trick is that my turbo car that needs left foot braking (the seven) has almost no room in the footwell to allow for easy transition, and the car that had plenty of room for it (the M5) didn't need LFB, it had this snazzy thing called "mAAAAd torkz" and RWD.
For the kidies who might go out and try this....
Left foot braking will usually increase your lap times (I say lap times because I don't want to sound like i'm condoning street racing) in non-turbo cars since you have to brake a little bit earlier to account for the little bit of time that you have to get off the brakes to switch feet, and without having to fight the turbo lag, there is no benefit. Depending on the balance of your car however, you might experience some understeer on the gas, in which case you can tap the brake while still accelerating to help get a little more weight on the front to bring the back around. I would only recommend trying this in a very big parking lot at first.

That's a cool video.
I thought it was funny when Hans Stuck was talking about "driving this car at the end of my career at 37" and I believe that he still drives for BMW now. That's a nice racing career.
Watching that Grouppe B footage at the beginning of that vid was wild. I remember when they cancelled that series because there were too many spectator deaths and (Porsche had produced the 959 and Ferrari had the F40) the organizers said that it was too dangerous because the cars were too fast. I was thinking - "Why don't they just move the damn people off the edge of the road and it might be a little safer? Why cancel such a cool series?

Hey, I tried that left foot braking/throttle on, it works really well and it's really easy!
At first the braking is a little touchy but it turns out you just counter that with more throttle, real easy, can't wait to push it a little more.

only two prolems that I've ever experienced with AWD:
1. When you lose traction in the snow and ice, you lose it with ALL 4 WHEELS simultaneously
2. With a manny tranny, trailing-throttle, in the snow, at speed, can defeat your ABS by stopping the tires rotation long before you can get your foot onto the brake pedal... Wich I now know:)

thank you, sir! i've been looking for this video for a while. the last time i saw it, i had to hand crank the 8 1/2 foot dish to the satellite hosting "informational programming". i've been trying to explain how badass the old audi turbo quattros were in racing history to friends, especially the left foot braking in corners to counter turbo lag and shoot them through the corners. now, i have documented proof. don't have a turbo in mine, but this helps explains the attraction to traction.

About the left foot braking.. its main purpose is not to prevent turbo lag, ie trubo rwd cars on the track do not use this technique, it's main purpose however is to rotate the car around the turn. Anyone ever try goin fast on gravel.. turning is not easy and you typically get alot of understeer. That is why rally drivers flick the wheel out and then in and if neccasary the e brake to get the back out.. then use the brake to get it more out and the throttle to bring it back in. This controls the slide through the turn.

Well, I am sorry if I offend you, and you being a BMW or Mercedes driver (I didn't know that)...I used the word (Cheapskate), as I come across so many people those who buy BMWs and Benzs just for show and know nothing about cars, this is especially true in North America. In Europe, people understand and buy cars which are more technologically advanced and better, not just for the logo on the hood. Every time I hear people talking about car, their usual conversation is ...if I will have money..I will buy BMW, or I will buy Mercedes, It's my dream to own a BMW..etc...and these are those people those who don't understand the difference between a V6 and straight6...they don't know anything about BMWs or Benz...but just want to buy it as they have better name recognition in NA (Anyone living in Europe will tell you a different thing, as Audis are well respected there).
I do understand that their are many enthusiastic people those who love BMWs and Mercedes, just like we love the Audis here, but I am talking about the majority of people those who buy that two brands.
Personally, Irespect BMW and Mercedes, but for me the Audi is above it, not because I own it, but because I believed it and then owned it. The video on this thread just proves that. Audi's Quattro is the best AWD, can you say the same about 4matic??
Anyway, as for liking me or not. I am simply ignorant to care.;)

Nissan's ATTESSA E-TS Pro is the best AWD, if you really want to get down to brass tacks.
And I love Audis just as much as anyone else on this board, but I'm sick of hearing people hating on anything that's not an Audi without knowing a damned thing about them. And them peopl esaying that the majority ofBMW and Mercedes owners buy for status only, you really think that the majority of Audi owners doesn't do the same thing? The people on this board represent a different selection of the spectrum, the simple fact that they are here is evidence of a greater interest in the cars and their technology, but you think that the average person knows anything more about Audis than what the salesman tells them? And to suggest that all Audi owners are somehow greater beings who buy Audis completely for their technological merits, while alllowly BMW and Merc owners buy them solely forstatus is, as you mentioned, ignorant. Sure the majority of BMW and Merc owners don't know the difference, but the majority of Audi owners don't either.

Talking about Nissan's AWD is like arguing that French makes better cars than Germans...one can keep on arguing just because one thinks so. The kind of people I was talking about... you give them 50K and ask them to buy a car...they will buy BMW, or a Benz, in just blink of an eye. However, you won't agree because you think Nissan AWD is better than Quattro, oh btw, have you the video you have posted at the start of the thread?
It's like you are mentally set to prove Audi is no better than BMW/Benz, and I am mentally set not to let you prove that.
