Help! I can't find the source of a water leak in my 2000 A6 4.2 and, since Audi has a reputation for water leaks, I hope someone out there has the solution. I know at least some of the water is coming in through the cabin air filter into the passenger foot wells (both front and rear footwells collect water). The foam under the cabin airfilter is soaked but I can't duplicate the leak. I have confirmed that the sunroof and battery compartment drains are functioning properly. I have also covered the cabin air filter with paper and then reinstalled the cover and poured gallons of water down the windshield and the paper stays dry. It seems to happen most frequently when the car is parked on a slope when it rains. Any ideas? I have also found water pools under my right side rear seat so maybe I have a leak in the back as well but I have no clue of where it could come in.

Oh, and even though I have thoroughly dried the transmission computer (why, or why does Audi install that under the passenger floor and not up under the dash someplace where it can't get wet?[:@]) and can't get it out of default mode. Any ideas on how to do that?

the same problem here i don't know where the water is coming i have water big time and the air filter is clean and dry no leaks under the window anyone please help.thanks

I've heard of problems with water coming in around the rear window as well as through the cabin air filter. My car has twice had problems with the driver door's automatic window switch (the switch operated by placing the key in the door's lock, twisting and holding). It was replaced twice in my A6 under warranty. Sometimes I would come out to the car and find the windows were down. If that happened during a rain storm, you can get quite a lot of water inside your car. My problem now is that I still can't figure out how the water comes in through the cabin air filter. It has to be either from the seal between the windshield and the plastic trim, or between the 2 pieces of plastic trim that cover the cabin air filter. Any ideas???? I'm thinking that maybe it is weather (thermal expansion of dissimilar materials) related???

We have a 2002 A6 Avant. We are also suffering from this problem. I called the dealership to set up warrantee service. When my wife called to confirm she was bringing it in, they told her that "drains" weren't covered under warrantee, that the next appointment was 10 days away, and that no loaner car would be available. I called them back. After commenting that a a car less than three years old shouldn't have a water leak, and if it does, it aught to be covered by warrantee, the service guy asked if the water water was entering in the front passenger's footwell, and if the car was parked near trees. Both are true. He said the tree debri falling on the car ends up blocking the drains, allowing water to back up through into the climate control air intake. Can we all say "engineering failure"? I removed the plastic cover under the hood in front of the windsheild and used my shop vac to remove the debri and water pooling in the well that holds the air filter intake, battery and other components. The battery was sitting in an inch of water, so the pool that I vacuumed out likely exceeded two gallons. That threatens wiring, corrosion, etc. I have zero confidence that I actually cleared the drain. I don't know where the drain actually is. Likely under the battery somewhere. I will get the info from a tech manual so I am not mucking around any more than I have to. Maybe I will just take out my drill and create a new drain... I don't want to have to vacuum out that space every time it rains, and I don't want to pay Audi servicing shop to fix it if I don't have to. I will be writing to Audi to complain.

Does anyone know where the drain is, and have suggestions for cleaning it? Thanks.
