rubbing noise

I have had a '98 A6 quattro for a few weeks now. When turning wheel about 45degrees left or right, I hear a rubbing, thrumming noise (sounds like tires may be too big and rubbing - but they are not). Is this an Audi thing??? or what could be wrong with this otherwisw lovely car??

The power steering sometimes makes clunking noises when put under alot of pressure.

I am thinking about purchasing an 2001 Audi A41.8 or 3.0q, I was wondering if anybody knows if this car has transmission problem or any other problem, thank you

I've heard the CVT has had some problems. Other than that, I think the Tip and the manual are tried and true, unless they implemented new ones.

Disregard what I said, you threw me off when you said 1.8 or 3.0. In 2001 there was only 1.8 and 2.8. the 3.0 is from 2002+. No CVT for the 2001.

I can only speak for my manual in saying that it hasnt had any problems and its at 85k miles. I haven't heard many complaints with the tiptronic. And I haven't heard anything about the regular auto, just because not many peoplehave em.
