2001 Audi A6 wheel spacer

I hear all these horror stories about wheel spacers. I bought 18" RS4 9 spoke wheels, and when I put them on my 2001 A6 2.7T, they did not clear the front caliper and so they would not move. I called ECS and James told me that I could go ahead a put small spacers on and they should not cause any issues. I am putting 4mm up front and 8mm in the back to fill out the car. I am curious if anyone has put small spacers on, and if so, have you had problems? I want to try to gain information on using such small spacers. I have done a search, and most the guys want 15mm to 20mm spacers. So any info would be awsome.

putting a wheel spacer on increases the distance of the calipers from the wheels but you are altering the off set and load on the bearings

With such a short distance (4mm and 8mm) will this cause such large issues?

I added 4mm wheels spacers to the front and the car look awsome and handle like a dream. If anyone has had apprehension going with such small spacers, do not worry, they will do OK in 1-5mm incriments.
