Hi, I'm wondering what this is. It's in a slot in the driver side door.

What ever it is, it's not OEM -- that was added by a previous owner. That slot is normally an empty compartment that is just about the perfect size to hold a wallet.

It looks like some sort of controller for an audio/video player. Check the trunk/glovebox to see if there's a CD/DVD changer in there somewhere.

I checked a Norwegian forum as well. And it turns out this is a device to control an engine heater, also called Webasto.

But it crossed my mind at first that it could have been audio-related as well..

its a timer of some sort nothing to do with audio and webasto is (sunroof)

Webasto is related to engine warming in Norway? I hadn't heard it connected to sunroofs.

on the UK cars webasto is well known for making sunroofs but done a search

Makes sense. The little fan icon totally didn't jibe with my "Audo/video" theory. The arrows are what mislead me but now I see that they could be used to set temperature.

I think the owner needs to start coming up with some cool, fictitious "James Bond" stories about what it does to tell naive passenters... "Hang on a sec, I need to rig the nitrous oxcide feeder system if we're gonna make it to the restaurant on time..."

its a good idea for very cold places but could be used for warming oil up and pumping it round the engine as that's the time more wear is on the engine on cold start up, just an idea
