I was doing my weekly detail of the interior and exterior today and also did my weekly oil check. Yep, its finally time to add oil. My RS has made it almost 3000 miles until now w/out adding a drop. This was all judged based off of the dipstick...no warnings from the onboard computer FYI. **Anyway, I wanted to know what brands everyone else was using for their synthetic oils?** Going to pick up a couple quarts tomorrow and was interested to know before I buy, Thanks!
PS-I love the dip stick on this car, its only like 18 inches long as opposed to "10ft" on other cars.LOL Trying to keep the dip stick steady on the other cars when inserting back in place was rediculous. The RS is quick, easy and precise...just another reason why this car rocks!!!

i understand from my friend who works in the oil industry that Dubs and Awdeez use Castrol and the RS4 has the Syntec full synthetic line. can anyone else confirm this?

Just checked with the tech at my dealer and he confirmed Castrol Syntech 10w-30 Synthetic is the brand/type used on the RS4 FYI. Thanks tsunami!

The castrol Syntec oil is not Syntetic, not even close. Its a well refined conventional oil.

-If its not "synthetic" then why does it say it on the bottle??? Also, why would an RS certified tech say to use Castrol Syntec Synthetic if Castrol doesn't offer it??? Finally, that is the brand Audi uses on all their cars, atleast at my dealer and every car there uses synthetic oil FYI. You need to do some more homework smart guy. If you want, I can scan a pic of the bottle (quart) I used and highlight the letting underneath the heading that clearing says "SYNTHETIC".

-BTW RS owners, he said to use 5w/30 and it holds a total of 8 quarts...damn thats a lot!

Hope this helps!

Also for the first two oil changes I would recommend an oil analysis by:
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
anyone who has had to deal with Audi regarding warranty will want this information.

there's a side of me that's thinking of going back to mobil 1. i'm up for my free 5000 mile oil change soon so i'll probably let the dealer do the standard Castrol Syntec, but for all subsequent changes, i've been using mobil 1 for years and will probably go back.

but whatever you use, i think it's safe to say, make sure you keep several quarts in the trunk for topping off inbetween changes. i just added another 1/4 quart at 4,000 miles. that's a grand total of 2 full quarts!!!

10w/40 is the exact weight to use...I am sure this time! LOL! I questioned why such a heavy weight considering it will never get colder than 15 degrees farenheit and could not get a strait answer. I wondered why the engine housing felt to hot as I walked by after a steady stroll. O'well, thats what they said so that is what I will use.
