Default A3 Problems starting

I have a 2006 A3 with 3000 miles on it. I have been experiencing intermittent problems starting the car. It never happens first thing in the morning, but after I have driven for awhile, stopped, and then try to restart the car. Nothing happens, no noise, nothing. The lights on the dash go on, so it's not the battery. I shift through the gears a few times, and after three or four times of going from park to reverse to neutral to drive, etc., it will start as if nothing has happened. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what the problem is? It has been into the dealer, but they cannot duplicate the problem in the shop, the diagnostics check out and they have no idea what is causing it. Please help! Thanks.

Default RE: A3 Problems starting

I have a manual transmission, don't know if it applies. The one time I had unexplained starting problems, I think it may have been self induced. I found that I was squeezing the key (locking the doors?) when turning it and it was like the car did not register that the key was engaging. It then started with a gentle twist of the key.
