I just bought a 1995 A6, and when i bought it, it seemed to run fine....than a few days later when i was driving down the road, i pressed the gas and the car started to sputter and make a sort of putting noise.....i let off the gas and pressed it again and the problem seemed to have gone away...(i thought since the car had sat for 6 months prior to running again there might be deposits that needed to be driven out)... not thinking anything of it, it happened every so often for a week until the other night when i left my friends house, when it sputtered, putted a little, than just died. Now it's sitting at the shop and it runs for two seconds before it dies again, and the mechanics are having trouble diagnosing the problem.............

Has this problem ever happened to anyone? Or does anyone know what might be the problem?

thanks, Jeff

Sounds kinda like a bad fuel pump, but it shouldnt be to hard to diagnose. You just have to go to the basics. Air fuel spark. If its a fuel issue as i suspect a fuel pressure gauge will be the tatletale. When the vehicle is started the fuel pressure will drop untill it is too low for the engine to run. Also check for vacuum leaks. This can be difficult as the engine doesnt run but blocking of the vacuum ports should produce a running engine if you have a vacuum issue. Also try opening the throttle blades slightly to see if you can get it to run while getting a little more air. You may have an idle air control issue.

i would have the car gone over to check all vacume lines, fuel lines and any rubber lines in the car. they may be dry rotted a bit from lack of use

Did you figure out the problem? I would start with blinking out the codes on that car. I hope the shop you took it to knows and or specializes in Audis, or it could be a steep and expensive learning curve.
