Yikes...to the Dudley Do-Rights: Give the seat belt lecture a frickin rest PUHLEEZE

Who here has stated that we're not going to wear our seat belts?  No one here is advocating unsafe driving practices, just asking how to disconnect the ANNOYING seat belt alarm.  I've never heard such a persistent and over-engineered piece of electronics.

This is a valid complaint.  To everyone saying "wear your seatbelt, it saves your life", your missing the point.  I wear my seatbelt while driving but I don't want to wear it while I'm sitting parked.

Ah , seat belts ARE here to stay, whichever way u view it. As for me , the annoying dings dings do get on my nerves, but got used to it after the many years owning an Audi. Anyway, the dings dings will go off after about 2 minutes or so, so just endure!!! I , for one also never wear seat belts.....

you guys just assume that because someone doesnt want their car chiming it is because they are not wearing a seatbelt.
well here is another thought before you jump to calling people stupid or saying they deserve to be tossed thru windshields...

i have an 07 a4 2.0  the seatbelt chime is almost enough of a reason to not buy the car.

if you are wearing your belt and come to a stop, put it in park and take your belt off, the car will ding nonstop every few seconds. ANNOYING.

if you have a passenger in the front seat and they get out of the car and shut the door, the car will start dinging.

i wear my belt. but dammit if i get out of the car to run into the store and leave the car running for the ac for my passengers, i dont want them to have to suffer thru that horrendous noise.

it doesnt matter to me anymore, i have had my codes changed so it no longer ever dings.
but dont just assume that because someone doesnt want to hear the noise that they are not wearing their belts.

thanks

I don't even think anyone should critisize people for not wearing their seatbelts.  It's not your business, and it's not like they can have any effect on you if they don't wear it.

Seatbelt laws are dumb anyway, I know they are to save people, but the law shouldn't baby us so much, I'll make my own decision to wear my belt, thanks.

Same here, I always wear my seatbelt (well, not really, I never wear them in the backseat).

I feel great wearing a seatbelt while driving, but if I'm sitting in my car while parked, I prefer not to wear one, but the chiming is more discomforting to me.

good luck getting a local vw/audi store to do it for you. they either wont know the codes or they will tell you they dont :P
ive found you either need to be an employee or know one.

either way...  HAVE FUN!

quote:

[Select] [17 - Instruments] [Recode - 07] Write down the existing coding for future reference. Enter 5-digit code from below [Do It!] Look at the first two digits in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding. 00 - No available equipment +01 - Brakepad wear sensor warning active +02 - Seatbelt warning active +04 - Washer fluid level warning active (may only work with pre-2000 models) +16 - Navigation System (non-USA models) Look at the third digit in the coding (Market version): 0 - "Germany" 24 hour clock 1 - "Rest of World" 24 hour clock 2 - "USA" 12 hour clock 3 - "Canada" 12 hour clock Look at the fourth digit in the coding (Cylinders): 4 - 4-cylinder 6 - 6-cylinder Look at the fifth digit in the coding (Distance impulse multiplier): 0 - TDI Engine (non-USA models) 2 - Non-turbo Gasoline engine 4 - Turbocharged engine So, if you want to have Seatbelt warning and washer fluid warning only in a 1999 Canadian A4 2.8, (add 00+02+04 = 06),3,6,2 = 06362.

Well given the B7 is so much like the B6 underneath other than a revision of the suspension, body panels and some interior stuff, the car's pretty rock solid IMO. Engine also.

As for VAG settings... most of the stuff on the B6 applies for the B7, but here they are for the B7.

Frankly everyone is entitled to their own opinion.... There is no point is criticizing one's option. Just that it sometimes limits my movements in the car and that takes out the enjoyment in the ride.. like the limited space at the home suppresses your free movements or something like that

If you think its annoying the alarm for the seatbelt you should put it on or just plug it in to the latch and and sit on your seatbelt. so just put it on

i just came across this topic now and i gotta say for a bunch of car guys it took you all close to half a year to decide to look under the seat and disconnect the wires. when i had my pick-up truck it took me mabye 15 mins to find and disconnect the seat belt alarm. now i understand it was a pickup truck not an audi but serioulsy its not that hard. me personally i wear my seatbelt, but i also commute to college so if i have some down time i tend to sit in my car and...study...and thats when seatbelt alarms become an annoyance, which is why i took mine out. the door alarm is still a mystery to me on this car though. if anyone figures that out please share any info.

I'm not sure in the newer A4 but the seat detectors in some cars control whether or not the airbag fires or if it fires at a lower velocity for a child.  So be careful about disconnecting it.

i posted the codes to disable all the warning chimes.
you need an audi tech to do it.
mine have been off for 5 months.
dont be an idiot and start cutting wires and unplugging crap.
that would be a brilliant way to potentially void your warranty and run up a nice shop bill.

o yeah im not saying just look under your seat and rip everything out. and i never though of the airbags being effected by the seatbelt sensor. that may explain y the bags didnt go off when i got in the accident with the truck. all i gotta say is im glad the '99 didnt  come with that alarm. the door is still at question though?

That's strange. My 2004 A4 doesn't warn you all the time. It doesn't even show the seat belt sign if you are not wearing it. It only warn you and shows the seat belt sign in the first few seconds after engine started then disappered.

Is there something wrong with my car??

I recently purchaes an '03 A4 1.8. My seat belt warning ding just stopped working. No warnig light on the dash as well. Any idea what controls it has? Fuse, relay? The MIL light came on as well. I'm not sure if they are related. Just put 4 new tires on it. Could the MIL be relatd to the Electronic Speed Limiter?

So I have 2 issues... Seat belt warning doesn't work. MIL indicator light on steady.

Any ideas? I don't yet own a VAG. I think I'll need one.

Thanks.

i feel the same way. try taking a turn fast without your seatbelt if you wear it all the time, it doesn't feel right.
