Default Auto dimming rear view mirror Compass question

I am a first time Audi owner and I picked up my 2006 A3 yesterday. I have a quick question about the rear view mirror. I have the premium package and my rearview mirror has the power button (to turn the auto dimming off I believe) but it doesn't seem to have a compass in the upper corner. Is the compass an extra option (I don't remember seeing that on Audi's site) or do I have a bad mirror. I have tried holding down the power button for 3-10 seconds with no result. If this mirror doesn't have the compass is it difficult to swap out the mirror with one that does? I was hoping to have a compass, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Default RE: Auto dimming rear view mirror Compass question

i believe that's an option that's found in the '07 A3. I saw it in the manual and got excited but I guess it must be an option in the european version because it's not an option that's found on the website. I don't know about switching it out.

ii have an 07, my manual mentions it as well, but i also don't have this option. I dont know if they didnt actually add it, or if its because I have nav. Doesn't bother me though since i have nav to tell me which way im going.

I had a compass mirror/auto dim on my xterra and it was sweet. A simple compass can really help you navigate at times (especially in Pismo Beach Dunes around midnight). VagParts.com has the OEM one for about 600. But if you purchase it directly from their supplier (gentex.com) you can get it for around $200 - $300 with more bells and whistles. I bet if you sell your auto dim mirror on ebay some lesser mortal will pay top dollar for it without realizing other options.
