Default 00-03 A6 2.7T Purchasing Help

Hello, I am new to this forum.

I am looking into buying a new daily driver. Need something bigger and with AWD and good power. I figure that the A6 2.7T is the car. I will be looking for an Auto and not the 6-speed. Keeping the M3 (in sig) for the weekend.

Can anyone tell me what to look out for?

What are the common problems with these cars? At what mileage to most of these problems occur?

How reliable is the 2.7T engine and turbo's? At what mileage do the turbo's need to replaced or checked?

Are their particular options or years to look out for?

Thanks In Advance

Bill P

Default RE: 00-03 A6 2.7T Purchasing Help

a chipped automatic is at its dsign limit for TQ. It can be damaged by excessive tq beyond design limits. Timing belts and water pump need replacing at 120K. Note that some have broken at 60K. It costs about $700 in parts and tools to do yourself or ~$1300 at dealer. hydr fluid and coolant change every 2 years. When coolant starts to drop good sign wp is on its way. Stock shocks last tll 60k or more. Reccommend getting a 2.7 with a sport package(seats and suspension) and the 17" 235/45 tires. B paient good deals abound which means you may have to travel to find. Carfax and check the vin for maintenance performed by audi at the dealership. You will have 6 O2 snesors which at $130 each get pricey. Get at man on CD and VAG w/program and you can diagno most problems. Tellus what Uget.
