Default Transmision surge/jerk

I just picked up my 2000 A8. Everything looked and felt great. Now at the end of the day the trasmision makes a clunk/jerk/vibration (not sure how to discribe it) when coming to a stop. It feels like it is not down shifting at the correct speed. (too soon?) Anyone ever heard of this issue? The problem is very intermittent. Any ideas...? Most of the time the car feels flawless.

A better discription may be, 'when slowing to a stop I feel and hear a "clunk" sound from what I believe to be the transmission. Anyone heard of/have this symptom...?

HAHAHA...calling AUDI is like calling your mom and asking her what SHE thinks. Trust me they arent gonna tell you anything. 97-99 A8s are notorious for shitty trannys. search http://forums.audiworld.com/a8/ for all your tranny woes. Most likely it is your Torque Converter locking and unlocking, but it could also be your valve body or potentially a number of other tranny related issues. Good luck man.

Hey man.. I know exactly what your problem is. My 98' that I've since sold to another member on this site did the SAME thing. I took it to a very knowledgeable Audi guy and he basically told me the transmission fluid was about 2-3 quarts low. He added fluid, sealed it back up and it ran GREAT! The only issue would be if the fluid's never been changed. Have the mechanic who does the fluid change make sure the gears look clean (no debris) and you should be fine!

GO HOKIES!!

yes, I have (2) 2000 A8's with the exact same problem/ Do you have a Vag-com? If so, I have a partial solution. There's an adaption sequence you can run which will last a little while and make a HUGE difference. The computer resets itself so it only lasts a couple of weeks/few hundred miles.

I don't have it in front of me so please email me and I'll send to you and post. I do it every few weeks on my cars, only takes a minute.

P.S. - don't know if this will work for pre=facelift cars. This is NOT the notorious thumping issue that the pre facelift cars have.
