Hello guys,

I just purchased an Audi. The car is in great condition, the engine pulls like nothing in any gear. I just have one problem with it. The drivers window doesn't won't to close right away. It goes down without a problem. But when I want to close it, it stops in the middle then i got to put it down then up again. Then it closes. I am not sure what could be wrong. All the other windows go down and up perfectly. Then another question is the sunroof. It goes pretty fast when you open it but when you close it its like fast and then the last 2 inches it goes slowly. Is that normal.
Well Thank you,

On your driver's window, it sounds like the window regulator may be getting ready to crap out on you. I would find a good Audi mechanic and have them look at it for you but I would say it's the regulator.

As far as the sun roof, I don't know what that could be. Sorry.

M

Try squirting some lubricant down window guides when open then try opening and closing several times. If this works then your problem is probably the thermal lance in the window motor, this works by over heating if the pressure on the motor is too great, it cuts out the motor and generally sends the window back down. You could try first thoroughly cleaning window guides to ensure something isn't restricting movement. Hope that helps buddy. p.s. my roof does the same, probably normal.

It's probably NOT the regulator. It's probably a very common problem with A6es: window guides that have worn out and need to be replaced. If you follow the link in my signature to my registry page, scroll down to Stoney's Links. A search for "guide" against that page will reveal several articles on replacing window guides.

The problem is that as these wear out, the friction increases dramatically. As such the pinch sensors built into the window regulators kick in and the window backs down after going up part way. Replacing the guides (which were redesigned by Audi to fix this problem) reduces the friction and the problem goes away.

I have the same issue but slightly differnt. Mine is the window on the rear passenger side. It works fine in warm weather but if its below 60degrees F less than 25% of the top it will hesitate. If its really cold it will slow down and stop and wont even close all the way. Then I would have to wait till its afternoon when its warmer then close my window. If its inbetween cold and hot there is alot of hesitation near the top and it would automaticly roll back down halfway then go back up very slowly. Hopefully these guides are the only issue, just found it very odd that it is effective by temperature.
