Default Engine Management Light, Air Mass Flow Meter, Door Open Warning, ESP

Just had a number of issues corrected on my ’02 S3 with 44k on it and thought the info could be useful to others….

Engine Management warning lamp indicator on the dashboard. This is the yellow symbol which looks like an engine, in the Speedo dial area. The light came on for four days, and then went off the day I took it to Audi! However the problem had been recorded into memory. It was related to the Engine Coolant Temperature sender. Replacement cost inc VAT: £150.

Also, they said the Air Mass Flow Meter needed replacing. This regulates the turbo airflow I believe, and it is a regular fault with many Turbocharged VW/Audi’s inc TDI’s. However I already knew this was a problem as they reported it in the last service even though everything was running fine, although the Eng Mgt light had not been on for that one. Cost: £197.

Finally, on closing the drivers door, the dash still registered that the door was open. This was a pain because the interior lights stayed on whilst driving, and the alarm would not arm on locking the car. New Lock required: Cost: £215

The other intermittent issue is the fact that the ESP Off Warning light comes on and stays on and then goes off at its own free will very occasionally. This is getting fixed next week.

The door switch is a common fault as this happened on my 2001 s3,
the actual part though was around £40 and not a massive job to fix, £215 pound sounds a little steep to me
