Default Steering Wheel Wiring?

I am new to Audi but have been building custom cars for many years.

I would like to put a steering wheel with controls for the stereo in my 2000 A6 2.8.

I am trying to find out if the electrical connection between the steering wheel and steering column is the same in different models. Does anyone have any information on this?

Remote control interfaces are one way devices, therefore it is impossible for the atftermarket cd player Alpine, Kenwood etc. will not send information to the display.
