First oil change: When to do?

Hi everybody,

I just reached 1K miles with my new 2007 2.0 TFSI A3 which officially concludes the break-in, yaaay.
Many friends told me to get the first oil change after the break-in, as a brand new engine leaves a lot of particles.

Does that also apply to the Audi? According to the manual the first oil change would be performed after 5,000 miles with the first dealer maintenance inspection.

My dealer wants to charge me USD 95 for any out of maintenance plan oil change, is this a good price or too expensive?
Should I stay away from places like EZ-Lube or other chains?

DIY. Oil change on the A3 is remarkably easy. It'll cost you around $50 to do. As for when to do it, 5k should be fine unless as the oil is synthetic and the OEM filter is pretty good.

Let the car go the entire 5k miles before the first change. Make sure that you use good synthetic oil at every change and it will go 10k miles in between changes, just keep an eye on the level. The only time I would recommend accelerating the change interval would be for a lot of stop and go driving or if you have performance mods and run the engine harder.

I guess I'll stick with your advice and just wait until the first maintenance service comes up.

Btw, do you happen to know where I can find good instructions on how to change oil on my A3?
