I have a '98 Audi Quattro A4 that I purchased preowned in 2000 with 36,000 miles on it. I've maintained it at two dealerships and only put 16,000 miles on it to date. I recently was unable to drive the car (it went in reverse OK but would not go forward) and had it towed to a foreign auto shop who said it needs a new transmission. I then towed it to the dealership where it was purchased and they agreed that it needs a new transmission. I was told that the cost of the new transmission would be between $5,500 and $6,000, and that without replacing the transmission, the car would have a trade in value of $1,000. I believe the Blue Book value is between $7,000 and $12,000 if it is running. I am debating whether to go to a transmission repair shop and try to have it fixed for less than $3,000, or bite the bullet and start looking for a new car. Any advice on what to do given these circumstances would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi hschlenker, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you are having such a bad problem. Any chance in finding a used tranny from a junk yard, and having a indepenant mechanic install it? That would save you a lot of money.

Yea, sorry to hear about that i know how it feels i had the same problem but it was with American built car, probably the best thing to do would be lookin for a used one somewhere online, i usually see some on ebay or different auto car part web sites, hope you get it fixed soon because Audi's are fun cars to drive, specially Quattro's in winter time.
