Oil Extractor-

Has anyone ever used an oil extractor to change their oil? such as the Pela? I'm curious how well it works.

Yes I do, and I love it. Some guys believe they get a better drain by pulling the drain plug, but I'm not convinced.

On my BMW's the oil change is so easy, it's no big deal. On my RS4, an oil change is a real PITA, so next time I'm using the extractor.

Cheers

if it's about oil containment, this is the heat! but if it is because you don't want to get under the car, the oil filter is still burried in there... somewhere. either way yous get dirty; just a point if you want to have an oil covered/filled drip pan, or a vacu-suck clean resolution.

The oil filter is under the hood, in the back of the engine under the carbon fiber cover. The PITA part of changing the oil on the RS4 from down under is the bellypan which is held on with about twenty fasteners, only half of which are captive. My bimmer had one 1/4-turn fastener on a little hinged door for the drain plug.

Either way you do it, these cars hold a lot of oil. The extractor only holds about 6 or 6.5 quarts and most plastic oil drain pans I've seen aren't really big enough for what the RS4's sump holds either.
