hey guys today when i got into the car and tuned it one the coolant light came on, which at first i thought it was odd, but after quick thought i moved the car back from its original parking spot and took a look to see if theres a spot. guess what ??? nothing. then i open the hood thinking that the sensor plug might be lose or something and to my amazement low and behold... overflow tank is empty !!!!
WTF is going on !!!
its a 99 A6 Quatro Tip.
looked a the oil right away hopping that its not the headgasket, oil is fine (was a bit low but it wasnt creamy)

The A6 has the after run pump aswell doesnt it? - that is prone to leak
Check the tank itself there could be a small crack in it hence no spot. That's where mine was.

well if this is the same thing that happened to me awhile back, your going have to get a new water pump and prolly a timing belt but you should change that if it is the waterpump anyways. I think they said my spindal in the water pump wasn't spining anymore. it's going cost a little over a grand if its the same problem

Possible coolant leak: Check the reservoir for cracks. If the reservoir is ok, check under the intake manifold. If it's a 2.7T, most likey the secondary coolant pump. If it's a 2.8, its most likely the coolant pipe seals under the intake manifold. If it's none of those, then it must be the water pump especially with that high of mileage. If you do replace the water pump, it would be a good idea to replace the timing belt, tensioner, rollers, water pump, and thermostat. Hopefully this helps, good luck.
