Default Problems with painting lowers...

This would be the third time that I've attempted this process. Starting with the front valence, so fairly easy to remove.

First - used Aluminum silver Duplicolor. (wrong shade)

Second - used Radiant silver Duplicolor. (wrong shade)

Third - using paint code from trunk, ordered a can of LY7M from Paintscratch.com. (wrong shade, actually same as the others)

This project is at a standstill. Has anyone run into this problem with mismatching 98 A4 paint shades. My finish has more of a Silvery-blue tint, but its not blue. Its not as "black-silver" as the Radiant or the Aluminum.

Please help....

Thanks for being the only one to reply.

Yes. In fact, I did an exhaustive search of the forums and found some really good writeups with pictures. Most Audi owners reported good results.

I used Duplicolor "gray" primer. Two coats. Maybe 2-3 coats of base. Then 2-3 coats of clear. Still produced a silver tint that was quite a bit lighter than my original paint. Don't know what to do at this point.

Its funny that you should mention that website. They attempt to do the same thing as us...and I'm finding that they fall short a lot. Go here www.paintworldinc.com or call me at 1-888-250-4936...I'll take care of you and I personally guarentee the match or I'll give you a full refund.

For future reference to anyone thinking about using Automotive Touch-up Paint: DO NOT USE DUPLICOLOR if you actually want it to match. Premade cans of paint can not possibly take into account everything that effects the color on your car. Only custom made paint, made by highly trained color match professionals, and from a good manufacturer can account for fading, age of the car, the differences in color depending on where and when your car was painted at the factory, field alternates found using your VIN etc etc. Anything premade and sitting on a shelf for who knows how long is a shot in the dark at best. Save a headache and a lot of time; go with custom matched.

Sincerely,

Mike

I used dupli color darker grey primer 2 or 3 coats to lower front plastic than use dupli colors metalic silver paint after 4 or 5 coats color started to get really close silver it is very easy to match . Cost $10 bucks wet sand that and clear coat and wet sand again 400 to 600 grit mirror finish.
