Default a few ???s

i was looking up prices for new tie rod ends, and there are a few different kits. should i get the more expensive inner and outer set, which kit have you guys bought? i've heard that tie rod ends are fairly easy to replace, is this true? what about cv joints, those are something i wouldn't be able to do myself, right? one more question, i've heard from some that goo gone will damage my clear coat, and some say it's perfectly fine. WHICH IS IT REALLY???? i don't want to use it if my paint will get screwed up (i have a black car)

ECStuning.com sells a good set of tie rods and control arms I believe (Meyle). Much better than the stock. I've heard it hurts the clear cote as well. You may want to post in the detailing forum, Patrick should be able to help you.

Goo Gone does not hurt your paint or clear coat. It is citrus based. There is another "goo" remover called "Goof Off" that could hurt/dull your clear coat if you are not quick with it.

GOOD

BAD

brrman, that's what i thought, thanks for clarifying that for me. panda, i'm removing the rear emblems on my car. it's a 96, so i don't expect them to come off easily.

Also, both of those products will take the wax right off that area, so be sure to reapply. Also a little heat from a hair dryer does wonders for addhesives, (hair dryer) not anything more.

i took them off my 99 and had no problems. I used a lot of goo-gone and my clear coat seems fine. You just need some elbow grease. Also heat the emblems up with hair dryer and use gloss. There are how- tos all over just search "how to debadge." To get rid of the outlines i used cleaner wax (meguiers) and clay magic. I used both a could times on the 2.8 quattro side. the a4 side was easy. I also used a plastic snowboard scraper to help me. Hope this helps. Goods luck and tell me how it turns out.
