Default Where do you fit the crankshaft locking tool 3242

I recently replaced my timing belt etc on the UK spec 2.4l AGA engine and saw that I have a weeping crankshaft oil seal. I have the cranskhaft locking tool (3242) but didn't use it when I did the cambelt as I couldn't find anywhere to fit it! I've been told it goes where the crankshaft sensor is but again drew a blank - i assume it's in the crankshaft line and has some wires from it but i couldnt find it. I know I will need to fit it in order to remove the crankshaft pully bolt.

Does anyone know where it is (ideally a photo). I have seen diagrams of the US 2.6 AHA engine but think thats a significanlty different engine design.

Any help appreciated - I suspect the work will wait until the weather improves unless the leak becomes more significant.

Thanks

Unfortunatly my only experience is with the us aha which is a 2.8 litre. Not sure if the block is the same, but the plug on the aha is on the drivers side. It plastic and held on by a 5 or 6mm allen. I doubt thats leaking if you havent touched it thou. Are you sure you need to lock the crank there. In the us we hold the crank with the 24mm 12 point socket that is part of the crank. Then you can loosen the crank pull bolts and access the crankshaft front oil seal.

Thanks dankhound - I actually managed to talk to an audi mechanic today and he said viewing from the front its on the right hand side behind the oil filter - sounds much the same place as the one you describe but is a 10mm bolt . However he did say that the tool had to be used to undo the crank - from memory on the 2.4 that 24mm 12 point has to be undone - I did hold it and removed the pulley bolts and pulley when I did the cambelt but i couldnt get to the oil seal withot undoing that big bolt. The weather's not good enough at the moment but when I do it i'll post a few pics

It is indeed a 10mm. I dont recall wheter the crank seal is large enough to slide over the timing belt gear, but if its not then youll have to lock the engine to get the gear off. If you have a manuel trans you may be able to stick the car in gear to lock up the engine.
