Default why should I get an A6?

I have been looking at getting a new car. currently I drive a '99 Trans AM 6spd and I've been concidering an A6, 99-04 2.7T or the 4.2L (Lincoln LS v8, Acura TL-s, and caddy seville are up there too). I've read about em on some review sites and I'd like to hear your opinions. how is maintence on these cars? reliability? are there any specific things to look for when checking one out?

thanks

The A6 is a great way to go depending on the fact that you are probably used to good power.

The 2.7T is great for modding and in the end will be much faster than most modded LT1 cars As for the 4.2 there is a slow progression in the audi V8 but it is slowly comming along. Check the link in my sig for a vid of the 4.2l

The best year A6 would be the 02 and up. In the beginning you will spend some money in maintenance but after that you are good to go

well I test drove a 2001 2.7T and I really liked it. its got 54k and only $13800.
what are some maintence issues that would need to be taken care of around that mileage? should there be anything in particular to look for in this car that could be problematic later on?

also how do the automatic transmissions handle extra power? like if I were to get a chip. what would a chipped auto A6 run in the 1/4 mile?

I have a '01 4.2 Quattro and I have no problem with power. It gets up and goes without an issue and you can forget about it on the highway. That's when she really gets down. You will love driving any A6 but do me a favor and drive the 4.2 once and she how you like it. I guarantee you won't want to drive anything else. Good luck on your search!

I would take cary's advice and just try to drive a 4.2 they are super smooth and great to drive.

As far as a A6 2.7T

There is a local guy I talked to that I believe said that he was on this forum. That ran a 13.3 @ 105 in a tiprtonic trans

Thanks John,

Yes I did go 13.3 @ 105 in my A6 2000 2.7T

It is a great car I would highly suggest getting one. there are several aftermarket parts for it

As for mileage check your O2's and see if they are good. This has been a huge issue with some other people. Also do you have a chip of Dp's I know this is a big help to the 2.7T guys. For 400$ you can get a set of Piggie Dp's that add hp longer life to your turbos and give you better MPG

The only service you need is every 60K> I just got mine done and it was 900$ This is for a new water pump, timing belt, thermostat tentchioners pullies, acc belt and labor.

Other than that it is just oil changes and business as usual. I really love my car. It's fun practical and fast
