Why is that A4 is lighter that RS4,
RS4 is like a fat pig. almost 4000 lb, while A4 is 3500LB, the V6 in A4 is almost as heavy as the V8 in RS4.
just out of curiousity.

no doubt that extra power of V8 is overvelming the extra weight, but still, its like fatso on wheels.
500lb in 3500lb car is 15% lose.

like what da hell audi thinks, sport car is light and powerfull, not fat and powerfull.

with 420hp, if the car was 3000lb it be so fast, I would get her in a hart beat, but hell no, I would not get a overpriced peace of metal!!!

RS4 is fat pig cuz of metil geershift nob!!!

Your facts are misapplied. The published weight for the A4 is a 16"-wheeled, 215-tired $28,000 car completely stripped with no options. Compare a fully loaded A4 with an RS4 (which comes fully loaded) and you will see that they are very close in weight. My RS4 weighs 3880 with a full tank of gas at a certified scale.

So to be accurate, all Audis are "fat pigs". That's exactly why they are so quiet, solid, and relatively rattle-free. There are plenty other cheap, lightweight tin-can-rattle-trap cars if that's what you want. Great sound isolation and build/material qualityhas its price.

So you basically saying that RS4 is Fully loaded car, while A4 isnt.
With all the options in A4, A4 would come close.
I get what you saying, but still 3880lb in RS4 that kinda heavy for a sports car.

The RS4 is not a sports car, it's in a class called "luxury sport sedan". Sports cars are two seaters but American advertising has blurred the line considerably and would like you to believe that their cars with "sporting intentions" are bonafide sports cars. They are not.

The R8 is an Audi sports car but will likely also be a "fat pig".

well, ok, if the Audi is a Fat Pig, as in fatter than other cars in the same category, then that mean that its heavier than other 4 door luxery sedans with 400+ HP with ALL luxery appointments? I highly doubt that.....thats where your comaprisons should take place.

Cadillac CTS-V
E55
M5
etc.... and throw in how much the RS4 costs against these cars for good measure. Of course the Caddy takes that, but drive both and you tell me the difference in quality, you get what you pay for there.

I alway thought the RS6 was luxury sport, while RS4 was just race sport.
hmm, never thought that RS line is Luxury sport
so that makes S line just sport.

thanks for opening my eyes.

I think all the cars you mentioned belong in the Luxury Sport Sedan segment. Car & Bimmer - oops, I mean Car & Driver in their "10 Best" picked the BMW 3-series in Luxury Sport Sedan. There's various sub-segments - such as "entry level" luxury sports sedan, but overall it's a very crowded market segment. Google "Luxury SPort Sedan" and you'll get a bazillion tests and comparisons.

I meant 4 dr luxery sport sedans yes. Thats what the RS 4, RS 6, S4, S6, S8 from Audi are....that alone tells you how crowded the segment is when one brand has that many. Basically just a bout every brand has their Steroids version of every 4 dr sedan they sell.
The RS 4 is not heavey at compared to others in the price and category range..... but comapared to a similar price sports sedan it's a pig, yes. But, so are all other sedans in the category.

the RS4 is a fat pig.

but it's a fat pig that spanks other lighter pigs on the audi farm. and the bmw farm. and the mercedes-benz farm.

that said, i still don't understand the purpose of this thread.

Take out the whole interior, put back in a single sparco, take out all the sound dampening, remove the AC, stereo/nav, speakers, amp, all carpet, replace all the glass with plexi, change the gas tank out to a fuel cell, remove the doors and replace them with aluminum without any opening mechanism, ditto for the trunk and hood - except make them cf, add racing wheels and replace the body kit with some lightweight poly with an aero package that creates a vacuum under the car, and make a few more mods and then you've got it under 3000 and then some.

It's a luxury sedan. You can't call Audi out on the weight when it is such a nice car to drive. True performance comes at the price of comfort. Decide which direction you want to go and go there. If you buy an SLR it has so much crap on it that you can't stop. If you buy a 599, it can't make the moves of a 360. You are either touring or taking some loud, hard bumps.

Yea what he said! Plenty of rattle trap tin can cars out there. Take you pick. There was a quote in Roundel magazine from a J.D. Powers exec about the WRX sti "Looks like they drove it through a Pep Boys with a magnet attached". Pretty funny. There's a lighter car for you. But it ain't no Audi. Not even close.

I bought a caddy SRX for the wifee and that car just drives us both nuts with all its "safety features". That's what the General calls it but we all know it's just legal CYA. That car is so LAWYERED UP it ain't funny. I could write a book about all the stupid things you can't do supposedly in the name of safety. The car drives and performs great though. It stickered for $57K and I bought it for $41. You won't find a fully loaded German SUV for that kind of money. Even so, no more GMs for me, not as long as the lawyers are running GM.

Trust me, from what I've seen, read, and heard, the caddy is a much better car. Just because it's American doesn't mean it's bad.

Yup. The big hook of the caddy is performance, but the caddy doesn't even have that. Here's a link with a track comparison with RS4, M3, Fuga, and CTS-V. The caddy comes in dead last - by a LONG ways.

Well that test is a STSV a much bigger heavier car in the class of A6, 5 series and E class platforms, so not a very realistic test to put it in with an M3 and an RS4. the CTSV is the correct chassis to compare with 3 series and A4s platforms. The STSV would still get its butt handed to though against the bigger cars. The CTSV would be a lot closer against 3s and 4s.
But, I have seen a CTSV, driven one to. They are fast, but v cheaply made, cheapo feel, cheap materials....complete opposite of an Audi, I would had bought one if i didnt think so. I drove both cars along with many other in the class when I was in the market, and I went with Audi. I had no plans to go with any car until one grabbed me.
The Caddy probably has better reliability, yes, amazing enough Cadillacs rate very high there with CR and JD powers, but so do Toyotas and Hondas, cars made as cheap as possible. I guess my use of Quality is more meant as refinement and tasteful finish and not all out reliability, very different.

LMO ! yeah, I just re read that! wow..... aside from spell check, I also have to thought check now. I meant the RS4 is in the 60k to 70K price range (like 5 series BMW and E class MBs) and performance class of a different class to ( BMW M5s, MB E55 etc) in which class the RS4 is very light in comparison....but when compared to cars in its actual category (ie M3 BMW, C55 MB etc) it is a pig, simply because of the huge V8 stuffed up front. The RS4 us unique in that it runs and costs like cars in a different category yet is built on a smaller platform category, so to which category do you compare it to? It kills all those in its platform category but just barely runs with those in its price and performace category.
