TCDD -> 94 coupe starting problems (11/24/2006 4:04:56 PM)

hello all

hopefully someone can help me..

i have the above car (2L 16V) it ran fine with no problems until last week when it had a a big oil leak, since then its had a new clutch, sump gasket, seals etc, it has also recently had new plugs etc, since its been done its refusing to start properly and dies in first gear or under 2k revs, the fuel pump and starter cable were ok before and im guessing messing with the rest of the engine wont have effected them. the engine turns over fine but just wont start up until the fourth or fifth try and then it sometimes dies, and really dies when pulling away in first (like those important times at roundabouts and junctions...)sometimes stalling, sometimes just juddering like hell...[:@][:@]

im sure its a common problem of some description, so any ideas gratefully received.

techbod -> RE: 94 coupe starting problems (11/24/2006 4:33:50 PM)

why didnt you explain better your problem and is it 2.0L s2 16v coupe

TCDD -> RE: 94 coupe starting problems (11/25/2006 4:08:31 AM)

its a 1994 2L 16V 140BHP coupe, i see that my problem is similar to others here, you can hear the pump start up when you turn the key, but the engine turns over but never actually starts, when it did it just died pulling away in first and starts stuttering badly, but seems ok in any gear once going if you keep it over 1000rpm (otherwise its chugging again), im now guessing it may be a connection to the fuel pump or the pump itself, would clogged filters have this much of an effect? ive had the electrics in the engine all checked over recently so im happy with that end of things.

thanks

just checking because there were a few very odd posts yesterday night so didn't now if it was a legit question and not a wind up[;)] idle control valve is a good place to start check if its getting power ( they do go bad ) but mostly its a power problem

TCDD -> RE: 94 coupe starting problems (12/3/2006 1:22:44 PM)

thanks for the pics, the resistance seems ok, ive acquired a different valve to try out, other than that Ive got hold of a new fuel pump and filters to give a whirl too..

TCDD -> RE: 94 coupe starting problems (12/7/2006 3:11:53 PM)

thanks for the help, replaced the valve, it checked ok but must have been buggered inside..

i replaced it with an idle valve from a 2l 16v astra, its exactly the same except for a slightly larger diameter inlet (and being metal), both are made by bosch and it seems to work fine, does anyone know of any long term issues with using them, as its a lot easier to get vauxhall ones...?

and on to the radiator..
