What would you choose between an Audi Q7 vs a new model BMW X5?? The better deal is the BMW, its cheaper, and it actually has more options than the Audi. Also I have heard that Audi may have some reliability issues with their cars, but I dont know if that has to deal with older models or just all Audi in general.

Thanks.

Q7's feel kind of cheap to be honest...... i have friends at the dealer and they were showing me a few things on them that weren't exactly up to par. My parents have an X5 though, it's a few years older... i think an '03.... I LOVE IT!!!! Theirs only has the 3.0 L engine too, and it still is really fun to drive. They live where there are no hills though (South Carolina coast)..... but still. I would definately go with the X5. X5 looks meaner than the Q7 too.

I don’t know where you have been doing your research but every you have said is a** backwards. For one, the BMW is not cheaper. A BMW equipped with the same options I have runs 8k more than I paid and if you want I can post them. The reason BMW has more options is because you are paying for options that should be standard on a luxury vehicle. I also hate to tell you that in the most recent Survey Audi was top in the reliability category of luxury vehicles with BMW in forth.

Well for starters, the BMW is a better deal, first off, because this car is being purchased in Canada, and not in the US. So maybe since these are different markets, there may be a price discrepancy. We have been to both dealerships, and the better deal is the X5. The issue with reliability just deals with what is common knowledge in the past. I have only heard that there may be reliability issues with audis in the past. Also, this car is for my sister, and she doesnt care much about the HP discrepancy (since the Q7 has a bit more), and she wont be driving it up any ski slopes as far as I know.

Finally this post is really about anything I should be weary about when considering an audi Q7.

It sounds like you're already sold on the bmw.. nobody here really cares which one you buy, so there's no need to defend your reasons to consider the bmw. If you're here strickly for the reliability concerns.. I don't think anyone's going to give you a real opinion cause the thing hasn't been out long enough to really test that. Who knows how long its going to go before major problems. That's the price you pay to have something unique on the road I guess. Personally, if I had the cash and a reason to own a truck again, I'd go with the q7. Others would go with the bmw. But then again, I snowboard a lot.

I would go with the Audi.
The Audi has a much better interior, as well as a better exterior (IMO)
The new X5 looks too much like an X3, and the design is too simple.
But you can't go wrong either way.
Both are great cars.
Test drive both and see which one you like better.
Go with your gut.

All,

I too am looking for a luxury SUV for my wife.  Shopping the Q7, X5, ML350 and GL470.  Very impressed with the interior appointments of both the Q7 and GL470.  X5 comes in third and ML350 fourth (ML500 moves up to third ahead of the X5 4.8).
I am aware of Audi's past history of poor quality when it comes to engines and electrical, but I believe that most of the problems no longer exist.  The basic platform of the Q7, a stretched Touareg chasis, has been proven in both the Touareg and Cayenne so I don't believe that there should be any concerns there.  Audi is a master of all-wheel drive and thier systems have been bullet-proof from what I have read.
My only concern is the engine.  The 4.2 in the Audi has been in use for several years now.  Does anyone have experience with it in other Audi products?

Kevin

We've been loyal BMW owners for as long as I can remember (740iL, 750iL,745Li), switched to Range Rover (worst car on the planet) and also had a few Land Rovers here and there. We've lived in Germany/US and recently drove a Q7 in Munich for a few days and fell in love with it. Just bought one on Friday from a great dealership in Cleveland, Ohio...wonderful salesman. Just need an iPod cable and we are all set. Never thought in my life I would own an Audi but our Q7 is wonderful compared to the Rover.....

Overall  don’t know how much money you have in your wallet, but we feel the 2007 Audi Q7 is a better buy at the entry level price of $39,900 rather than the entry level price for the 2007 BMW X5 of $45,900 in this class. But if you have the money lying around, or if you’re a huge BMW fan and hate Audi and if you really care about the .6 seconds difference in the 0-60 mph, go for the X5. Personally I like Audis interior better but on the exterior I like X5 more. So its all up to you you just cant go wrong both great cars,  oh yeah don’t forget about bmw's maitance free program.

I would have to disagree with the exterior of the X5 looking better that the Q7, the Q7 with the premium package, and the multitude of colors that are available the Q7 has the potential to be a real head turner....I would also add that nothing is for free!!! The Audi Care option is 590$ and covers all scheduled maintenance up to 45k or 5 years..not sure what BMW has built into the price of the car to cover the maintenance but "nothing is free"

I think the obvious question here is why did "audifanand4" go for the Q7 over the BMW X5?
He stated his dislike for the Range Rover (RR).
Everyone knows the RR has electrical and reliability issues, don't they?

He's a loyal BMW guy, yet he purchased a Audi Q7, makes me wonder. How about you?

I currently own a Q7. I have a lot of experience with the X5 as my father owned one, it was an 04' model. He had nothing but problems. First, it's ride is the stiffest of all SUVs that I have driven. I believe that if you are going to buy an SUV why the hell would you get one that feels like a sport sedan raised a foot higher so all of the bumps are felt twice as much. The roads in Nor Cal are very rough and I found myself always thinking it was an uncomfortable ride, and my daily driver is a S4! Second, there was a squeeking sound that came from the dash that never went away in the three years he owned it, the dealer always "couldn't find the problem." They even replaced the entire dash and it still happend. Third, the rear tailgate had to be replaced because of a faulty latch. Fourth, electrical issues that could never really went away.

When my father went to sell it, there were at least 50 other X5's in the same model year with the similar miles on the market, which says something. He even tried to sell it $5k below low blue book and didn't even get a call. A friend of mine sold his ML350 in a week.

I am a huge fan of BMW, I love their 5 series, but as far as their SUVs.........they really missed the mark. Q7, smoother ride, better interior, more room, great Audi Quatro AWD.......and I think they both look cool.

x5 is kinda ugly and i bet the q7 would smoke it in a really froad situation where you would need an SUV, most people buy x5's and just drive them around the street like ****ing idioits, but i do appreciate them for what they are for, just hate people who buy suv's and just waste gas and never use them for their purpose

I empathise with Froglogic comments.

Furthermore, the Q7 is a bigger (more practical bigger) SUV variant to that of BMW's X5. Q7 serves its occupants well in the refinery and comfort department and provides peace of mind with its quattro set-up - if ever relied upon. Prices discount (here in NJ) favour the Q7 heavily against its Bavarian cousin ($3000 USD versus $1500 USD). However, BMW's maintainance is more comprehensive over 50,000 miles and it's steering/handling is a notch better/tidier.

For me the Q7 was a clear winnner. A great family vehicle where comfort and space reign over differences in steering, and financial discounts nearly always have a major say in the decision.

I'm new to the audi forum (used to drive an A4 roughly 10yrs back). Currently drive a 530i, and will be taking delivery of a new Q7 in 10 weeks time. My comparison was against Q7 3.6 premium and X5 3.0si both of which were well equiped with comparitive options.
