Sure. It will look silly, perform like crap, ride like you have no suspension, and you'll get bent rims if you look at it funny, but you can do it. Have at it.
I have audi 18's on my car for summer tires( i have the same year/model) and by putting the 18's on that took away a lot of the ride. I wouldn't even think of putting 20's on. Im not sure who said in the forum before, but i believe they put it as you might as well take the tires and ride around on the wheels...
Save your self the money from buying a new rim each week after hitting a pot hole.
just food for thought.
I have 19's on my 2.7T. I live in Baltimore and for the most part the roads are not too bad. I do not think my car rides bad at all, but you do still run the risk of bent rims. You surely need to be careful. You will sacrifice some performance and definitely sacrifice ride comfort. There will be times when you have to drive around pot holes. I am a seasoned pro (especially when I am in Baltimore City, terrible roadways)!
Good Luck!

My friend has a 2001 2.7 turbo A6 with H&R sport lowering springs and 20" wheels. The car did not ride bad at all and he never bent a wheel. We drove it to Hollywood from Santa Barbera all the time. Never had one problem. So to actually answer your question (which was can you do it) instead of giving you a narrow minded opinion, YES you can do it.
I was looking at the Stern ST-7s what tire size do i need if the wheel size is 19" x 8.5" - 35 - 5/112
I have Continental Contact Sport II, 235/35 X 19

umm u probably can but imho opinion 18 looks best 19 is pushing it, and unless the wheel is gorgrous or your car is modded in some other way ie lowered w/ coilovers, tinted, etc 20s are too much on an A6
