Engine Swap

ChrisShep -> Engine Swap (12/19/2006 6:32:42 PM)

Has anyone ever swapped out a 2.8 or 3.0 engine for the 2.7t ? If so any pictures or links?

fenderstrat1184 -> RE: Engine Swap (12/19/2006 6:47:59 PM)

this is usually asked about a4s doing the same thing... best bet would be to sell your car and get one with the 2.7T.... yes it is possible, but wouldnt be worth the money, effort

ChrisShep -> RE: Engine Swap (12/19/2006 8:29:55 PM)

I figured the answer would be to buy a 2.7t, how different are the two engines?

CamoA6 -> RE: Engine Swap (1/5/2007 12:52:07 PM)

The 2.7T is a twin turbocharged engine. quite a bit more zippy then the 2.8. But I haven't heard much about the 3.0's

prbayha -> RE: Engine Swap (1/5/2007 1:04:57 PM)

1.8T = 180HP
2.8 = 190 HP
3.0 = 200-210 HP
2.7T = 250 HP
4.2 = 300 HP

Give or take a few HP...

02audia41.8 -> RE: Engine Swap (5/6/2008 8:08:41 AM)

does anyone know how hard it will be to replace a 2002 1.8t with a 2.7t engine and estimated price and if it will even fit in the engine bay

joetm -> RE: Engine Swap (5/6/2008 2:38:55 PM)

if ur talkin abotu the a6 yea itll fit but u might aswell buy a 2.7t bc itll never be worth what u are going to have to pay ... u can get a 01 2.7 for liek 13grand

trapped -> RE: Engine Swap (5/6/2008 3:39:33 PM)

Haha, If I were going to go through the time/effort (alot of time and effort!) I would find a nice cheap 4.2 and put in a 2.7t (stage 3 since its out) [:D] Wide body looks with 400 or 450 hp!!!!

joetm -> RE: Engine Swap (5/7/2008 5:33:30 AM)

yea id do the same i wiiissshhh my 2.7 had the body of a 4.2

trapped -> RE: Engine Swap (5/7/2008 9:52:15 AM)

I see a lowered 4.2 (black/tints) with the 9-spoke Rs6 wheels and a trunk lip and man does it look amazing.

a6hcw -> RE: Engine Swap (5/7/2008 7:23:56 PM)

There may be problems with engine swaps due to the way emmisions testing is now done by connecting to the OBDII terminal on 1996 and newer cars. They also go by the VIN number, so there is the problem of being acussed of criminal tampering.
Therefore, go buy an A6 2.7T and use you other spare A6 when your modified 2.7T with turbochargers blows up.
The amount you save in legal fees should pay for the 2.7T.

Seriously, unless you have money to burn, like $20K+, have wealth of car knowledge and skills, and unlimited time, lets not ask these questions anymore.  These are not like old school small block chevy's or early Japanese 4 bangers.  The process requires serious investment, custom fabrications, knowledge of electrical and engine tuning, time and not to mention running through emission regulations and etc.  I am not saying it is do-able, but it is not your Sunday project.  To be frank, I never heard anyone swapping any motors in newer model Audis.  (Although I saw a guy putting in a BMW M5 motor and tranny into a E39 station wagon...)

So once again, it is doable, (I think...) but I bet your bottom dollar that you won't be doing it.

lol i'll let you know how it goes

If you are replacing 2.8 with another 2.8, then pretty straight forward.  2.8 to 2.7 maybe... 4.2?  Good luck.

a6hcw -> RE: Engine Swap (5/11/2008 8:18:06 AM)

The 4.2 won't fit into the 2.8 engine space. The wiring harness, ecm, mechanical configuration, legal regualations, etc. make a swap an insane choice. It is cheaper to buy a used A6 with the desired engine, and have the engine rebuilt, than the parts and labor to do a swap which is not street legal.

Limen -> RE: Engine Swap (5/12/2008 5:43:40 AM)

ive thought about the idea of puting the 2.7tt motor in my 4.2 A6. But like everyone else, decided it would not be worth the money and/or trouble.

But, damn that would be sweet to have the "widebody" A6 pushing 450hp
